I'm a newbie here and this is my first message.
My new Linksys WRT54G version 3.1 came with an older firmware. I updated without hickups to the latest official firmware (4.20.7) and right after a pal told me about this site.
The problem is my router fails everytime I try to load a 3d party firmware.
I tried with both dd-wrt.v23_voip_wrt54g.bin (from 19.10.05-dd-wrt.v23.voip_beta2.zip) and the tofu hyperwrt (from WRT54G_4208_HyperWRT21_T62.zip).
The computer was wirelinked to the router. I reset to the factory defaults (even hardreset) the router but no success.
If I let plugged both cables (from my computer and from the cable modem) the firmware upgrade aborts after a couple of seconds with the message 'upgrade failed'. If I remove the cable from broadband modem and let only the one coming from my computer the upgrade aborts somewhere in the middle of the process with the same message. However the wireless part of the router 'dies' but the router still works on the wired part (I'm able to see my local network but not the internet). Flashing the official firmware by the executable resolves that (thanks God).
This is strange. Is this possible that the latest official firmware 'locks' the router against any 3d party firmware upgrade??
The version 3.1 as far as I know is fully compatible with both firmwares mentioned above.
Anyone a lucky guess? Thx in advance..
