Here's the history. I'm trying to help someone else out. First the PC would just randomly connect to other neighbors. They had an older Linksys G USB adapter. Don't remember the exact model. I set up security and they seemed to have no problems for a couple of weeks. Then they would randomly disconnect from the router. The speed would fluctuate from 1 to 48 Mbps. Just so you know, you can see the router from the PC. It's maybe 50 feet. For compatibility reasons and speed, I thought it best to upgrade to the WUSB300N adapter. Speed shot up to something like 240. Again, worked fine for a few days and then started randomly dropping the connection. I can sit in the same room with my Dell laptop and not get disconnected. In another room is an IBM laptop that has always worked.

 Any ideas on what could be going on???
