WRT160N in N-only mode

    Hi All.

I can't get my router to work in N-only mode.

It's fine in mixed / b/g modes, but when I turn on n-only, the connection to my laptop gets dropped (can't connect at all until I switch back to the other modes). I have N enabled in the device manager (I have a Gateway laptop 7811 with Intel 5100 wifi).

Linksys tech support said try setting encryption to AES only. I can't seem to get that to work either (I get an error message essentially saying the setting is incompatible between the laptop and network, even though I've set it to AES in the laptop (at least I think I did-- right click /properties on the network choice), but I can't see how changing the encryption should matter in my situation-- I can't connect at all in N-only mode.

Short of getting another router to test it out (or another laptop), is there anything else I can try?

    thanks in advance,

    - Frank

Figured it out - sort of.

Well, after taking out another computer's wireless G receiver, my connection problems with the router were fixed.

I was able to set n-only mode and did everything the Linksys tech recommended-- WPA, AES, auto for the band... but I get a max of only 65 mbps even when sitting right next to the router, despite "excellent" signal strength.

I see from other internet posts that people get a better response out of the router.

    Is 65 mbps max normal?
