    Well.. WRE54G v1 (f/w 1.06.05) DOES work with WRT300N for sure.

well, I'm assuming you already tested a configuration with both devices I mentioned
what shoud be the configurations of both devices?
How can I check the version of WRE54G before buy? It's mentioned in the box?

On the package/box, WRE54Gv2 has an image of an ethernet cable coming out of the device. In fact, WRE54Gv3 is also the same as WRE54Gv2, since both have the same f/w. Obviously, v2 and v3 have ethernet ports. Hv not tested with v2 or v3 with a 300N, yet.

If it doesn't hv an ethernet port, then it is v1.

The WRT300Nv1 with firmware version 0.93.3 works with WRE54Gv2 FW:2.01.12

I just install 2.00.14 on my wrt300n v2. Until now, I did not detect any differences....
Tomorrow I'll buy the WRE54gv2 in order to expand wireless signal and try to connect my xBox360 to the wrt300n.
The USB Wireless xBox360 Antenna captures a very "weak" signal from the wrt300n...

what configuration do I need on both devices ?(wt300n and wreg54g)?

    thanks

I'm assuming that you are using a Wireless-G-USB adapter for the XBOX so i would say that you'll not be able to maximize the speed and the range of the 300N technology. For the configuration, try setting up the WRT300N and the WRE54Gv2 without encryption so you will be able to use the auto-configuration button and it willl configure the WRE54Gv2 for you automatically. Once you obtained two blue lights on the WRE54Gv2, try to find a spot where to place the expander and see if you have enough signal for the Wireless-G USB adapter of the XBOX. You can go to www.linksys.com/kb and look for answer id 1488 for more information.

P.S. The Range Expander will reduce the transmit rate to approximately half of the original source data rate transmission. See answer ID 1495 on the Linksys site. Hope this helps. :)

    it helped a lot!!!
In fact I'm using a Wireless-G USB external antenna for the xBox360. I understand I cannot maximize the speed and range o N technology.
the problem here, is the wireless signal from the WRT300n cannot reach the location of the xBox, and for than reason I need the WRE54G in order to enough signal for Wireless-G USB antenna of the xBox360.

Just one more question which is not mentioned on both answer 1488 and 1495.
The WRE54G’s Auto Configuration button feature will not work on WEP enabled wireless networks.
So I must disable WEP om WRT300n in order to get WRE54g AutoConfiguration feature.
When the Auto Configuration process is completed may I enable WEP again on WRT300n, or WRE54 never works when WEP mode is enable?

thank you very much for your help!

Yes, once you've established the connection between the router and the range expander using the auto-config feature, you can enable WEP or even WPA for your wireless security. I would strongly recommend to assign the key on the WRE54Gv2 first and then configure the key on the router as the last step. What will happen is when you enable the security on the range expander first, you will loose the connection for the mean time, but after configuring the key on the router, both devices will talk to each other again. Just in case if you still have problems configuring security on the range expander, connect the PC to the range expander using an ethernet cable and set a static IP on your PC. Good luck bro. :)
