I'm using a Linksys WRT54G with Last Satori firmware revision.
My client adaptater is a 3Com® OfficeConnect® Wireless 11g USB Adapter with last drivers revision

    My problem is :
    - Slow rate transfer (about 800KB/s max)
    - Several deconnection (i have to deconnect physically the usb adaptater from the pc and reconnect it in order te see again the ssid)

I have made a factory default on the WRT54G, and all parameters seems to be good. Even if i do not put any security, i have the same problems.

Does anyone could help me on this problem, i don't know if the problem comes from the usb adaptater or from the WRT54G.

With my last WAG54G, i have a normal transfer rate, but still deconnection every 15-20h....

I haven't tried with the original Linksys firmware, and i can't succeed in downloading him on the official site (ftp is down).

Thanks in advance for your help...

got 2 of the 3com USB 54MBit-Sticks.. got the same probs and fixed it for me this way:

. On the WRT54G use Firmware which can fix the signal power
    (e.g. HyperWRT 1.3, wifibox ...)

    - set frame burst to enable (wireless / advanced wireless)
    - beacon interval to 50 (wireless / advanced wireless)
    - select g-only mode if you can
    - if you got WIN XP, disable the WIFI Handling for the card so that only the settings from the 3com-Software is the master

    - try to use only 64 BIT WEP Encryption

best fix for me was changing the OS for the WRT54G to HyperWRT and sure to deselect the winxp-handling of the wifi-connection...

    try it, hope it helps.

I had the same problem. I've tried several firmware (Linksys, HyperWRT, Sveasoft) - but no difference. I tried both the driver supplied with the 3com usb thingie, and the new one on the 3com site (from june?). Nothing worked. In the end I bought a MSI PC54G2 , and I've had no problems since. The WRT54G is working like a charm. My advise is to return the 3com usb... However, If you solve the problem - please tell me how, my 3com usb stick is currently of no use to me :|

    - I should add that increasing the power on the WRT54G had no effect on the 3com problem. If I just surfed the web it would last a few minutes, but if i tried transferring a file over the lan, it would disconnect in less then a minute.

one important thing i see for my installation:

    - on my notebook i deinstalled the old 3com-driver first, then reboot,
then install the new one, and dont use the winxp handling for the card..

my sticks are working good now, good performance and stable connection

hm, maybe you got a little "driver garbage" in your system??

Yes it could be driver issues... I tried most ways of installing the drivers though, and letting/not letting windows manage the connection. Frankly I suspect the problem to be my usb-setup, perhaps something else on my system is conflicting. I'm going to try it in another computer, but I havent't had the time yet. Glad it worked out for you. :)

    just another tip:

disable the advanced power handling for the usb-device so that the os could not disable your usb stick to save energy... very important!!!
