WRT54G and BEFW11S4 - WDS connection

I've got an old 802.11b router BEFW11S4 ver. 3 and I'm going to buy WRT54G ver. 2. Up till now I was satisfied using BEFW11S4 as a wireless gateway to my Internet connection. However, now I need to expand the range of my network. I would like to do this at the possibly low cost and without lying additional cables, by means of WDS.

I've read that it is possible to do this using only one WDS-capable device, which would be WRT54G in my case. My BEFW11S4 is version 3, so it's impossible to upgrade the firmware to get the WDS functionality as it could be done in case of ver. 4. Still, I'm not quite sure if it's possible to do this with these two devices. It doesn't matter for me, which one will be client and which will host Internet connection. Also, 11 Mbps is enough for me.

It would be great if you could tell me if this connection should work before I buy WRT54G. Or maybe someone has already tried such a combination?
