WRT54G & BT Voyager 205 connection problems

Discussion in 'Cisco/Linksys Wireless Routers' started by stevebirch2002, Dec 14, 2004.

  1. I have been trying to connect my BT Broadband that uses a BT Voyager 205 ADSL Modem to the Linksys WRT54G. Been trying for three nights now and pulling all my hair out. I have downloaded the Satori 4.0 frimware into the WRT54G but totally stuck. Please can anyone help with idiot proof instructions to enable me to connect three laptop PCs to the WRT54G either via wireless or ethernet cable to all get on the internet. I have BT Broadband 512k. Thanks in advance. Steve Birch (steve@albinvega.com)

OK, I've struggled with this all morning and searched the web without finding a good answer. There were many suggestions, including connecting the linksys in parallel - but that defeats the purpose.

The issue is that the BT Voyager 205 is also a router and also wants to give out DHCP addresses. Also, its using the same IP range 192.168.1.x

This is what I finally chose to do to solve the problem.

    1) Get everything connected up such that:
BT Voyager <-> Linksys (internet port) <-> PC (ethernet to linksys port 1)

    2) log-in to the Linksys and change the IP to 172.19.1.1
    3) Re-boot the linksys

This will result in the following:-
    a) The linksys will boot and reqest an address from the Voyager
    b) Your PC and other devices will get their IP from the Linksys

This all worked perfectly for me. The next thing to do is set up the wireless security. Thats a breeze.
