WRT54G - Comcast Cable Modem Hang - A cure?

Greetings forum, I provide home networking installation services. Two clients have comcast broadband, one with an RCA modem, the other unknown. My favorite router choice is the WRT54G. I have a number of other DSL, other cable, RF broadband users that do not have the hang problem so this is comcast specific.

Periodically (sometimes once a week, sometimes several times a week) the modem/router 'hangs. On two occassions Comcast tech support suggested recycling the power on the modem and router. This gets it working again but is a 'dumb' response. Today I tried to contact Comcast again and was advised they do not support networking questions and this was an 'unsupported issue'. Well fine, I will certainly advise all future clients to steer clear of their broadband service if they don't support it; but I am and will encounter this in the future.

I believe that the problem is due to Comcast periodically resetting the dynamic IP. This is a guess. Does anyone in this forum have experience with this type of 'hang' and if so, does anyone know of a fix (setup changes, new firmware, etc) that can be applied to the WRT54G to allow it to gracefully re-sync to the Comcast modem. Note: it may very well be the comcast modem itself is hung and nothing in Linksys land can help.

Also, Linksys makes dsl modems. Would these have 'bulletproof' recovery built in?

Thanks for llistening - hope someone can help.
