WRT54G connection with Frtitz! Box problems

    Hello everyone!

Yesterday I purchased my new WRT54G to have a wireless LAN to connect my PC, laptop and Wii on it. To get on the internet, I use a Fritz!Box Fon normal DSL modem/router, through a PPPOE connection.

Following the instructions on the CD, I did everything, choosing PPPOE as my connection type. But after all was said and done with the wizard, it said that the Router could not connect to the internet and that I should turn the other router on and off and try again. I tried that, didn't work. Then I started messing with the settings to see what happens.

My Fritz!Box Fon has an IP of 192.168.178.1, something that no matter how many times I tried to change into something closer to the WRT54G's 192.168.1.1 lead to failure and I needed to go through many lengths to restart the router etc. The WRT54G has a similar problem, I can't change it's IP into 192.168.178.2, or anything. It will freeze and then another restartathon is in queue. Also, when connected with the WRT54G, I can't access the Fritz!Box. I can't ping it either.

I've tried many things, but as the WiFi and LAN relative newbie that I am, I couldn't work out a solution for this problem. What should the DHCP setting be? Am I doing something wrong? Should I use DHCP insead of PPPoE in the WRT54G settings? Is the whole IP situation I detailed above even relevant with the problem? Please help and save me from any further frustration!

    Many thanks. :)

    Hello,
    why ppoe ?
You should configure your wrt with dynamic ip on the wan and as a router.
WifI Mode should be Access Point. Thats normal all to be done

Why not PPPoE? I have a Dynamic IP address from my ISP. Will these settings make it "see" that it is on the internet? I don't know if this helps, but actually the Internet LED is on when I have it connected. It just can't seem to work as it should.
