WRT54G - Fast on PC; Slow on Mac

The internet speed on my new Mac computer is very slow compared to the PC. Both are connected via ethernet cables, but a page that loads in 2 or 3 seconds on the PC will take 20 - 30 seconds to fully load on the Mac.

I have tried all the obvious solutions - updating firmware; switching cables; switching ports. I have chat with Apple tech support and spoken with Bellsouth DSL and Linksys tech support. As expected, each points to the other's product as the problem.

Connection speed is fine when I connect directly to the DSL modem or when I connected to the internet at the Apple store, so I figure it's got to be something between the Mac and the router. The wireless connection is also slow so it's not just a cable thing.

    Any suggestions?

    How about this question?

Is there anyone out there using an iMac with a WRT54G who is NOT having slow page loading?

Yep, using one right now. There appears to be problems which I am trying to source out. If you look in the Apple forum, you'll see there are many people reporting issues. The issues I've seen so far are only for connectivity not performance.

@Anonymous: First off, why don't you create an account, you won't regret it. Second, play around with you MTU setting on the router to see what that does for ya. Is it only http traffic that is slow?

Yes I am using a PC and an iMac with a WRT54GL and I have not had any problems. Both the PC and the iMac are set to DHCP with a wired connection.
