As you can tell this is my first post. I have done a lot of research regarding updating my router but have concluded that I am a newbie and haven't understood the correct procedures for the upgrade.

I did determine that I would like to switch to Tomato firmware but thought I would ask here about a few things first.

Some background. I live very rural but I am also lucky enough to have access to high speed internet via Cox cable.

I have never done an upgrade on my router before but tried earlier today (several times) without success. I do not have WEP or WPA set at this time but intend doing so once I have Tomato loaded.

    What I've done:

    1. Downloaded DD WRTv.24 and have read that I need to upgrade to it first (I hope that this is correct?).
    2. Downloaded the Tomato Zip v.1.28
    3. Navigated to my router (my settings) and logged in
    4. Went to Admin/firmware upgrade/navigated to my dd wrt file
    5. Did a 30/30/30 reset
    6. Uploaded the file to the router
    7. I keep getting "upgrade fail" errors.

Why am I upgrading? First I haven't done this and it should be done. Second the whole adventure was started because I cannot get my wifes Christmas present to connect to the internet (a Nook ereader). By the way it connects everywhere else but here.

So, what do I need to do? What have I done wrong? Please help me sort this out.
