    Hi folks,

I currently own a WRT54G with firmware v2.02.7 on it (there's a label saying that my router is 'v2' if this is important).
Now, as I sometimes have some problems with the router (e.g. downloading big files) I wanted to do a firmware upgrade - but now I really don't know which one (german version vs. english vs. international - or: does the most recent firmware apply to all hardware versions (1 - 3))?

Can anyone tell me what's the right (newest) original linksys firmware I can upgrade to?

thanks for any help on this matter,

    Peter

I'd like to add a question to this thread as it seems to be the most relevant one to me, and to allow everyone to reply in one place rather than repeating themselves.

I've kinda shot myself in the foot to be honest. Got a UK model v1.1, but somehow upgraded the firmware to v2.0.2.2, which as far as I can see in the changelog files, is a US firmware.
This was done as least a year ago and everything it working fine so far, but just wondering what improvements/changes I'd see if I wanted to upgrade to say the Sveasoft Alchemy firmware.

The latest US version is 4,97, which according o the changelog corrects a problem with downloading large files,

as far as alchemy or 3rd party firmware you will see a lot of features. i think up to 30+ features. well if you want to real firmware that is free here is dd-wrt. if is based off of alchemy firmware and is great. here is the link Http://www.dd-wrt.com
this firmware is what opensource is all about

    Huh?

4.00.7 is available in Linksys download area.

I just purchased a WRT54G v. 3 today (or might be v 3.1, - unable to identify hw version, not labeled anywhere on the box or in the router admin pages or in setup). S/N is CDF9. F/W is 4.00.7

And as of today there is a link to newer 4.00.26 in Linkskyinfo.org news page. I can't tell you how to 'navigate' to this location however so must use the link.

    http://www.linksys.com/servlet/Sate...WRT54G&pagename=Linksys/Common/VisitorWrapper

I will upgrade to 4.00.26 firmware version tomorrow.

you can download the firmware directly from Linksys and install it yourself. Goto linksys.com and then select support. Among the options that need to be selected are the version of the router. So to answer that version 2.2 questin, 'is it relevent?'...yep

the firmwares are in zip files, so decompress them and then go through the options under your routers web setup screen under Admionistration for upgrading the firmware, and be certain you don't loose power or disconnect while upgrading. You will be in the dark with your little blue box if that happens.

erm, a router V1.1 doesnt run sveasoft, imho.
most of these firmwares require at least v2 afaik.
