WRT54G Hardware sockets have swapped!

Something realy odd has happened, I'll first explain the situation, then how I got here.

    -My router is a WRT54G V1.0

-Wireless is working with normal defaults, I can join the AP and get to the routers web interface.

-The 4 LAN ports on the router appear to be dead. The lights are on and packets are routed between ports but the router cannot be accesses from these ports.

-the WAN port is no longer a WAN port it now behaves as a LAN port should do. i.e. I can ping the router on the port and log in to the web interface, through the routers default LAN IP 192.168.1.1.

Factory settings reset does not change anything.
Firmware update does not seem to change anything.

    How did I get here?
I upgraded my router from a Linksys firmware to DD-WRT v22, this seemed to go fine. The router was working properly but performance seemed much poorer under heavy network load than I am used to.

I changed the firmware to HyperWRT v2, at this point the router stopped responding through the LAN ports. I found I could access the wireless AP with the default settings. In desperation I used the Linksys 4.00.7 installer utility over the wireless connection (I had not yet found that I could access the router through the WAN socket). That flash seemed to go smoothly but did not solve the problem, I am in the situation described above.

    What can I do?

unfortunately I experienced the same problem with my WRT54G 1.0. I searched around the posted in a few forums but no one could help. GO back to DD-WRT and after a couple hard resets and restore factory defaults the router will be fine, but you are stuck with dd-wrt now.

I have exactly the same problem with a WRT54G 1.1. This happened after loading original firmware WRT54GV3.1_4.00.7_US_code.bin on top of Sveasofts Alchemy 1.0.

Whatever I try (up to resetting by shorting pins on the flash chip), nothing changes. The LAN ports don't seem to function anymore and the WAN port gets 192.168.1.1 after resetting to factory defaults.
Only intermittently when its in recovery mode (short pins 15 and 16 of the flash chip) I get a 300+ms ping reply on a LAN port.

Has anyone been able to solve this?

PS loading firmware dd-wrt.v22_wrt54g.bin like RTSAnime said made it work like normal again, but other firmwares still give the same problem.

try upgrading your firmware to alchemy or talisman, i had that problem, and it seems that somehow dd-wrt disables the internet connection. I switched to alchemy and it started working just fine, then moved to talisman on 2 routers to use the wds function and havent had a problem

Connect WAN port to LAN port with CAT5 and turn on power for a few seconds, this should solve the problem.
