I've bought a WRT54G ver. 2 router on eBay but it didn't come with a manual or an installation disk, or a category 5 cable either for that matter.
Can anyone give me any clues as to how to install it? The actual plugging in I think I can handle but I'm wondering about the configuring of it. Do I have to make any changes to any settings in 'internet connections' etc?
Also, which software/firmware is the best to use with this version (vers. 2)?

If you can get to linksys website the manual is a download. I would power up the router and hold down the reset button. The flush one in the back for about 15 seconds to default it factory settings.
The default IP for the router should be no user code and password of admin.
If your internet connection just requires DHCP it should work. You need to go into the menu's and change the password and set some security on the wireless.
The latest Linksys firmware is stable if you don't need any extra bells and whistles.
There are many opinions as to what after market firmware is best. I've used DD-WRT Hyper-WRT and Tomato. They all work and are all stable.

    Enjoy your new toy.
