Does anyone have an idea why when I do a speed test over the wireless connection I get 4600 kbps download and 975 kbps upload, and when i do it over a wired connection to the router I get 10000 kbps down and 975 kbps up...the download speed is twice as fast over the wired connection...I have upgraded to the latest firmware and still have the same results, are there any setting to change that would help?

to make a long story short wireless pretty much sucks and cuts your speeds in half

wireless connections will always be slower. the 54g range is no 54mb one way unfortunately, this is a myth since the era of 54g. max speed of a 54g is about 20-23Mbs. with a speedbooster/Afterburner (WRT54GS) technology you'l get a max of 27-30Mbs. this is with ONE Wireless client. add more wireless clients and you will get slower speeds due to the bandwidth being shared. enabling Frame Burst on the WRT54G can increase performance as long as youonly have 1-3 Wireless clients. Signal strength will also affect speed.

    10 mbit

So you said it can do 20-23, but it can't handle my 10 Mbit internet connection? I will try the frame burst and see if that helps.
