WRT54G newbie help.

My WRT54G router doesn't seem to be working properly.

    1) Everytime I leave Bittorrent on to download for a long time, it keeps disconnecting after like overnight or so. Although it shows that my computer is still connected in the task bar, I can't use Opera or Bittorrent at all. I have to go switch off and on the router from the main switch to make it work again.

    2) Everytime it's online, it has short bursts of dissconnections every so often. Like every 5-10 minutes, a pop-up in the taskbar will tell me it has been disconnected. After 4-5 seconds, a pop-up will come and tell me I've been connected again...

Is there something wrong with my router?

Also I was thinking to prevent all these, can I directly connect the cable to my room and then set up the WRT54G router from my room so I will get direct access and won't have to depend on the router's mood when I'm downloading stuff and get 100% instead of the miserable 60% - 70% which it barely even reaches 50% less then 10% of the time.

Hi, I'm new to all these router talks and all the tech lingo and everything cause I've been using a modem my whole life until a month or so back. But anyway, I've been reading around and was wondering if I flashed a firmware, would it void my warranty or anything?

I think my router is V2.2. So can I still use that? And also I have already upgraded to HyperWRT 2.0. Should I use that instead?

A forum member noted in part that "My WRT54G router doesn't seem to be working properly. .... Everytime it's online, it has short bursts of dissconnections every so often. Go to the Linkysys web site and search their FAQ section for the document entitled "Lowering the Advanced Wireless Settings on a Linksys Wireless Router." It is a detailed primer showing what settings to change to engance the ability of these routers to remain connected.

I find that, using my high speed DSL connection, my WRT54Gv2 router remains reliably connected without altering these settings except that it did benefit from changing the QoS settings for the WIRED part of the LAN; my unit seems to like the quality of service setting for the PC I browse with to be set to higest, and the port priority for the PC to be set to high as well. When I made these changes my own connectivity issues went away.

Sorry could you link me to the site. I tried looking around Linksys.com and they didn't really have anything...

Linksys appears to have changed its Web site recently, making the location of its support docs less obvious. The location of the Linksys connectivity adjustment primer is as follows:

Go to http://www.linksys.com and then select Easy Answers. There is a menu in Easy Answers that lets you search topics. Enter this search topic without selecting anything else as a search condition (i.e you will be searching "A'' Products") [Enter the search string below WITHOUT quoutes):

"Lowering the Advanced Wireless Settings on a Linksys Wireless Router"

    Then, click the search button.

    The topic should then appear.
