WRT54G not able to browse network wirelessly HELP!

I have a WRT54G with the Sveasoft Satori-4.0 v2.07.1.7sv firmware set up on my home network with several wired machines and a laptop. Wired machines work fine, both internet and able to connect to each other by both computer names and IP addresses.

The laptop works as well as the wired machines when i plug it in to the WRT54G with an ethernet cable, but when I use the wireless access, I cannot browse the network or access any computers by their name. IP addresses work though... i.e. \\DAN will not connect, gives me a "The network path was not found", however \\192.168.2.100 will connect and allow me to browse my shares from that computer. Weird.

I am using WinXP Pro SP1 on the laptop by the way. My first thought was to compare the settings on the wired and wireless network connections. They appear identical unless I am missing something. I have found a few posts online about similar problems, who have suggested making sure NetBIOS over TCP/IP was enabled (it is), making sure the Internet Connection Firewall was disabled, etc. I have tried everything that I have found, but nothing seems to work. It has to be a simple setting somewhere that just doesnt jive. One place suggested disabling the loopback setting in the WRT54G firmware, but that did not help either.

Has anyone had this problem? Or have any idea how to fix it? HELP!

You need to disable the loopback function on the administration page.

    Thank you!

I disabled the loopback setting and I also entered the names into the dhcpd box. It works! Thank you!

By the way, can you explain to me what exactly the loopback setting is?

the loopback feature was added for certain types of network setup, unfortunately it was enabled by default and most people have problems with this being enabled.

Cannot access other computers fro wireless

I also have a problem trying to access my other computers from my wireless laptop. I saw your suggestion to disable loopback in administration. However I have searched in administration and cannot find this option. I also cannot find where to add the computer names in dhcpd. I am running hyperwrt 1.3. Am I missing something?

if you read the 1st post he was talking about satori firmware and not hyperwrt. i am currently running hyperwrt he and have no problem accessing my network, are you sharing folders and file on the other PCs and have the same workgroup name on all your PCs?
