WRT54G or GS?

Got frustrated with DI-624 as it keeps disconnecting on interference. I heard that Linksys is more stable at this. Anyway I'll be using the build-in Intel Pro/Wireless card from my laptop and I'm wondering winch version of the router I should get. Since I don't use a speedbooster wireless adapter should I still get GS anyway? Is the only difference between the two speedbooster or is GS better overall?

Take a look at this page for all the differences in hardware:

If you can get your hands on a GS v1-3, you get twice the ram and flash memory, but unless you use torrents or other memory intensive options, you will be fine with a G v2-4.

As for Speedbooster, some 3rd party firmware lets you enable it on any G (except the v5 and higher). It will sometimes work with other speed enhancing hardware as well, for example, my D-Link DWL-AG530 gets improved speed when I enable it. I am not familiar with your hardware, so this may be a moot point.

Earlier versions are becoming harder to find, although currently I still see them at Radio Shack and Walmart.

The easy purchase would be a GL from newegg.com. It's pretty much the same as a WRT54G v4, and cheaper than a GS.

You can also get some 2.4GHz 9dBi Rubber Duck RP-TNC Antennas for about $16.00/each to improve your signal, if it's in your budget.

Hope this helps, and good luck with your purchase.

I have a WRT54GS v.1.1 and it works really well with my IPW2200BG (ThinkPad R51). In fact it works much better than the WUSB54GS:s I got that disconnects about once a day and have to get disconnected physically and plugged in again to continue working. The laptop has a stable connection until it’s turned off.
