I know that if I press the reset button in the back of the router it will reset to factory specs. I also know the same holds true with doing it via the web. My question is if I had a power failure how long will it be before it resets itself back to factory specs or loses some of its settings. Thanks for all input.

You are looking at the Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF) of electronic components here, which is usually in the thousands of hours.

Routers use Flash chips - they are not dependent on power to retain their state. I think it safe to say that your router will not lose its settings for the time that you can survive without power.... ;)

If however, you are upgrading or saving configuration settings and a power failure occurs at this time, there's no telling what could be, except that your firmware will be highly confused.

Thanks - Possible solution was found.

Thanks, I found out what the real problem was. It was not a power failure, but improper input error by the person programming and then reprogramming the router. I had to ask about the power supply because I have found in electronics as with computers the quote "anything is possible" certainly applies. Again thanks.
