Bittorent had other issues. The number of torrents can exceed the number of connections the router could support, the router had to restarted in that case. There was a issue with large filedowsn loads that was supposed to be fixed. The issues are interelated, since Bittorent can download large amounts of data.

I am a bittorrent freak/user. in you router setup page, go to Applications & Gaming > Port Range Forward.
The port range should be Start-6880 End-6890 and enter your computers IP and click the enable button, scroll down to the bottom of the page and click Save.

if you are using a microsoft based system, click START and RUN. type in cmd and click Enter. In that window type (with the quotes)

    "C:\Program Files\BitTorrent\btdownloadgui.exe" --help

AGAIN, type it exactly like it shows, WITH the quotes

This will open a window of arguments that the program will accept. (BitTorrent must be closed when you make changes)
The nicest arg for windows is --advanced ("C:\Porgram Files\BitTorrent\btdownloadgui.exe" --advanced)
This will allow you to see more information about your downloads just below the progress bar of your downloads.

    Good Luck

oh yeah, I use this cmd, works great for me.

Make sure bittorrent is CLOSED before you do this. otherwise it wont work.

    Click Start>Run
type in cmd and click enter
    type> cd\
    hit Enter
    type> cd Program Files
    hit Enter
    type> cd bittorrent
    hit Enter
    type> bitdownloadgui.exe --advanced --rerequest_interval 2 --min_uploads 10
    hit Enter
(this will load BitTorrent with these arguments)

last night i flashed the most recent firmware from linksys for my wrt54gs, the only diff i see is now i can traansfer large files within the network wlan to lan.

as far as being in irc alot, it wouldnt be affected directly cause the change i listed above. what will affect your irc experience is when your dl an ul take up all your bandwidth then you will see it slow down.

one this i notice in my house is that my mac will dl and ul faster then the windows based. both using bittorrent. and the windows app will only allow 3 downloads at a time, while like last night I had approx 25 things downloading at the same time. its weird but its true.

seems that it works better for mac.
