WRT54G uplink to Vigor2600

I have recently bought a new Linksys WRT54G Wireless AP / router which I now try to connect to my existing home LAN which is based on a Draytek Vigor2600 ADSL-modem / router.
The Vigor2600 has ip-address subnetmask and acts as a DHCP server for all the PC's connected to it (starting to assign addresses from 192.168.100 upwards)
I connected one of my PC's to to new WRT54G AP by plug a cable into one of the 4 ethernet ports, gave the new router address, disabled the DHCP function of the WRT54G and used the cable which originally was connected to the pc now as an uplink connection between the new WRT54G AP and the Draytek Vigor2600 router DHCP server.
After a reboot of all devices all seems to work, but especially upload traffic between a device connected to the WRT54G and another PC (or website) connected to the Vigor2600 is extremely slow or even doesn't work at all.
E.g. sending mails from the re-connected PC fails with time-out messages.
    What am I doing wrong?
    Can someone please help?

To make this work correctly you first have to disable the DHCP on the wireless router. Next, give the router an IP address of and assign wireless router DHCP or static ip address off of main Router.

Oops...By the way, connect ethernet cable from WLAN port 4 to LAN port.
