my neighbour got a WRT54G and want to try to use it as a simple WLAN Access point, to connect it as a WLAN client to my existant WLAN network.
is it possible to configure the WRT54G as a simple WLAN access point?

i alread tried different firmware (dd-wrt / alchemy) but ... no sucess ...

n.b. i'm using a zyxel dsl router (with no WDS), so WDS is no solution in this matter.

has anyone an idea how to proceed?

Hi, to use the WRT54G as a AP you only need to connect your existing LAN to one of the WRT54G's LAN ports and leave the WAN port open. Disable DHCP if another DHCP server is active. That's all.

To check this out, I just factory reset my WRT54G, so it's really easy.

    HTH!
