WRT54G v.5, Router disappears, needs reboot

I purchased a WRT54G version 5 a couple of months ago to network my Sprint DSL, Compaq Evo and Apple iBook. Overall, I'm happy with it, as WAP security was easy to setup and everything worked great right out of the box. I have not noticed any speed issues that other users have reported, although my DSL connection is only 1.5m, so I wouldn't notice a problem if it even existed.

However recently, maybe 3 times a week, the router no longer appears on my network and the wireless network disappears. I think that it coincides with turning on the desktop PC. I have updated to firmware version 1.00.4 and the problem continues.

I know that version 5 of the router has a different firmware and operating system than previous version and may be problematic, but I don't think that I can return the product 2 months later and find a version 4 at this time.

I realize that this is a rather vague request for help, as it certainly depends on my individual setup, but does anyone have an idea as to why this happens, or have had a similar problem?

I appreciate any help you have to offer.

(If anything, this is more proof that the WRT54G v5 should be avoided).
