I have had enoug hwith Linksys. After making me wait over a month and a half for a "3 day" RMA, I get a version 6 in place of my version 5 and the version 6 is doing the same thing: Constantly losiong connection every few minutes, or if more than 1 computer attempts to access the internet at once. I have 1 wired and 2 wireless computers, as well as a Linksys Wireless Music Bridge on the network, and a Belkin Range extender (Wireless Access Point mode). MY interent connection is Bell Sympatico (up here in Canada, eh) and it's an Ultra High Speed DSL connection. I DO have hte latest firmware installed.

Anywho, my question is very straightforward. Everyone on here is sayign that a simple transition to a linux firmware on the v.6 router will solve my problem, but I would like to know, first hand, most currently, what firmware do I need to download (preferably a direct link to the download page of the firmware)? If I would like, can I switch back to the Linksys firmware if I ever feel like it (for some reason completely unknown to me, but I would still like to know)? Will it work with my current setup?

Thanks in advance for your help, and I hope to hear back soon! (The basic, straightforward, extremely common questions in here could make for a very helpful sticky in this forum if someone answers it very accurately)

What version of the firmware are you running? You say latest...

I had a problem of after an hour or so of inactivity, I would lose my internet connection. The computer/wireless NIC card could still connect to the wireless router but that was no longer attached to the internet.

I had frimware version, so I went to the official linksys site and grabbed the latest firmware - version 1.0.2. This installed no problem and now my router is working perfectly. Well, I only did this yesturday but I've had zero problems since.

the firmware IS 1.0.2. or whatever..... it's the latest on the website currently so........

And I've noticd that the problem is never 100% constant. For example: Yesterday, the connection to the router would stop working every 5 minutes or so if two computers were connected at once. Today, I haven't had a problem yet... A week or so ago, it would happen once or twice a day for a couple of days... The problem is that it's the exact same thing every time: No connection to router. Can't ping, can't connect to the User interface of the router, internet stops working on it. A reset of the router fixes the problem every time, but obviously that's not very convenient, and very annoying at times.

If this is your wireless connection that is giving you problem, I would start by trying the different frequencies available.
The 2.4GHz range is quite crowded and un-regulated. Your phone or your neighbor's wireless could interfere. Try each of 1, 6 or 11 for the canal. This may help...

It's not JUST the wireless. The problem affects ALL of the computers on the network.

I had the same problem on my WRT54GS. Since changing to DD-WRT I've never had any problems. Follow the link posted above, you won't regret it!

i'm also having this problem on a WRT54G v6 (with Comcast in Seattle) with 1.0.2 firmware. I randomly lose Internet connection and/or connection to router, both wirelessly and wired, and a short amount of time gain it back (in no more than 5 minutes). Last night I popped in Comcast's DNS servers manually into computers and router and noticed a huge speed and stability increase, but less than 24 hours later it's dropping the connection again.

I also had this problem when I had this router back east with Time Warner Road Runner, but after the last two firmware upgrades, the issues disappeared. not sure why they back again with different ISP.

since there's a WRT54G v8, will there be anymore firmware updates to v5/v6?
