wrt54g v1.1 gpio 7?

I got hold of a wrt54g v1.1 router and wished to use one digital output and one digital input for my hardware project. I got the input working per http://www.dd2mic.de/proj/WRT54G-SD-Card/index.html (gpio 4).

I wanted to use the dmz led output but I can't seem to control it-- "gpio enable 7, gpio disable 7" seem to have no effect. I think the led and output 'work' because the led comes on when I take the gpio 4 input low (I think it is being seen by the Tomato 1.28 firmware as the radio enable/disable button?)

I have read over leds.c but cannot quite make out what may be going on, especially with the HW_BCM4702, LED_DIAG, LED_PROBE, and /proc/sys/diag (I don't have a /proc/sys/diag). My chip is labeled BCM4702KPB.

    Anyone familiar with this/these issue(s)?

I am using plain Tomato 1.28 ( I would rather use something like tomato-WRT54G_WRT54GL-1.28.7632.3-Toastman-IPT-ND-Std.bin, but I can't get any "ND" builds to work at all-- similar to this thread: http://www.linksysinfo.org/index.php?threads/problem-with-toastman-build-flash.36652/)
