WRT54G v2.2 or v5?

    Hello All,
I have two WRT54G routers (v2.2 and v5) but I am using only one.
I decided to use one of them in a wireless robotic experiment.
After some google search I learned I have to add a serial port to the router and install a new firmware which is capable to handle it. The function I need is to transfer the data coming on TCP/IP (wireless) to the serial port.
    Please advise
    - is DD-WRT a good choice for it?
    - which router's software is upgradeable more easily? (The method of the hardware hack is the same I guess.)
    - how should I configure the new firmware to route the commands coming from a Windows PC to the serial port?
Thank you in advance for any help
    Peter

the v2.2 is better to handle firmware upgrades. v5 users VxWorks as its default OS and not Linux like the v2.2

Thank you for the quick reply.
Is the DD-WRT capable to handle the serial port?
If yes, how should I configure it?
    Thanks
