I'm using WRT54G V3.1 with FW 4.20.8de with my notebook with Windows XPpro SP2.

I tried to use WPA-PSK but there I can only get a connection for a few seconds and then the connection is lost.

With WEP128 I get a connection but it's not possible to send or to send IP-traffic.
The only working method is to use WEP64 but I want more security.

    I have SSID-broadcasting disabled.
In future I would like to use WPA-PSK oder WPA2-PSK.

    that sounds rather weird....

Make sure no power saving mode is enabled in the notebook. Do you have a desktop wireless PC for testing purpose. Just want to narrow down where the problem is....router or notebook.

I know before SP2 in order to use WPA/WPA2 there is a patch for it but pretty sure Microsoft included it in SP2

I know that there's a patch from MS for WPA (included in SP2) and there's also a patch for WPA2-support (not included in SP2) ... I've tried it with this patch and without ... but not success.

I think power saving mode is not the problem because it works with WEP64 but not with WEP128.

Maybe I can try it with my desktop PC but there is the same wireless USB stick connected.

You should have SSID broadcast enabled if you are using WPA2 or WPA2. Disabling SSID broadcast does not add to security. The WPA2 patch must be used with Windows XP SP2. it does help with connectivity, but should be removed if you are using WEP, since it is know to cause problems with WEP.

thx, I still would prefer to use WPA or WPA2 but I'm not able to get connectivity if I enable WPA oder WPA2 on my WRT54G. So, I've to use at the moment WEP64!
