WRT54G v4.0 what firmware?

I've got an airport express that I'd like to set up with my WRT54G v4, but apparently I need some 3rd party firmware to do it (that supports WDS). Can anyone recommend what firmware I should get?

unless the airport is based on a broadcom chip, I don't think that you can do WDS with the two of them.

    That's V4 hardware? Good news.

Okay, try DD-WRT basic generic version 23.
It features WDS and everything under the sun.

If that doesn't do it, try Thibor's HyperWRT version 170905 for the GS. Umm, before you do that, hold your router up to the light and look through the vent. If you see light (from the other side), it has the GS motherboard. Anyway, Thibor's HyperWRT has WDS, 84mw available power and a very easy user interface. ;) I'm using this one.

Load DD-WRT basic generic 23 first to "unlock" your router. While you've got it, try it out. That project is really coming along nicely and it is very popular.

Wait two minutes after loading firmware before you do anything else with the router.

Be sure to do a full reset before and after loading any firmware. Only load firmware after the router has been set to factory defaults. After loading firmware, set it to factory defaults again (loads the default values for the new firmware). Personally, I prefer to do a hardware reset before and after, instead of using the menu option "restore factory defaults".
