WRT54G v4 is showing v5 corrupted GUI, can't upgrade firmware even with TFTP

I have a WRT54G v4. I attempted to flash from whatever firmware it shipped with to the HyperWRT firmware. I later decided I wanted to switch back to the default firmware (I used the most recent version). The flash succeeded, but now I have the corrupted GUI like what some people with the v5 router have. TFTP will not work, unless I try reflashing with the exact same firmware that's already on the router. In that case, it succeeds but I'm still stuck with the corrupted GUI. Help!

Try the long hard reset - hold the button on the back for 30 secs, this should reset nvram variables to defaults.

Also clear browser cache, change browser or use another PC. Hyperwrt screens are very similar to Linksys so may have same name files coming from same source so browser is getting confused.

I've already tried that several times, no luck.
