WRT54G V4 Locks up Cable Modem

    Hello All,

I went to 5 or 6 stores before finally finding a WRT54G V.4. (Radio Shack ended up having a v4 and an even older one) I'm content so far to use it with the latest linksys firmwire, but might change to one of the cool firmwares. I have run into one issue that I didn't see listed in the forums--every time I make a change in the router's settings that causes the router to reset or when I reset the router, the router's connection to the cable modem fails and can only be restored by resetting the cable modem. This is probably specific to this Toshiba PCX2500 Cable Modem, but my this didn't happen with my old Linksys Router. Something the WRT54G sends to the cable modem locks it up or something. Has anyone else experienced this? Any solutions?

    Great forum by the way.

Will power cycle the cable modem unit fix the problem?

Yes, resetting the cable modem makes everything start working, until the router resets again, then the modem must be reset to restore internet. I never lose connection to the router, only internet. Also, I am able to release and renew WAN DHCP after loss of internet, but before resetting the cable modem, but I have no internet.

I believe power cycle and reset are two different things. When you power cycle, it is like turning off/on the device. A reset will completely erase/replace the current setting by the factory default values.

You are correct. By "reset," I mean "power cycle." Sorry about this.
