I just got a WRT54G v5, i have upgraded the firmware to 1.00.4 and im having a big problem with the GUI. Ill be cruzing around the GUI changing configs and then the GUI will just go white. Ill re-log into the router and i just get a blank white page. The only thing i can do to get the GUI back is to reboot the router. I have contacted linksys 3 times then they keep telling me to re-flash and do the whole reset procedure. One tech told be to downgrade the firmware but was unable to give me an older version of code.

Anyone else have to problem? I was going to take it back to the store and exchange it for a new one but after reading these forms im begining to think that all the WRT54G v5 routers have this problem.

The V5 devices are all new, as is Linksys experience with the VXWORKS firmware upon which it is based. Make your own conclusions about that, but personally I wouldn't touch one with a 10.5 meter rod. Now that I've had a taste of aftermarket firmware and what it can do, well? What can I say? I'm a HyperWRT junkie.

Again, this is a decision you need to make based on your needs. Once you get the settings stabilized, chances are you won't need to go into the GUI more than once a month for routine changes/maintenance. So this may be a minor bug you can live with if the unit is stable. Your call.

If you decide to exchange, Linksys was, at one time, exchanging V5 units out for V3 units for the cost of shipping. Alternatively, you can exchange it for a WRT54GS or WRT54GL which are both guaranteed to be a Linux based unit, or dig through their stock to try to find a WRT54G that does not have a "B" in the 4th position of the serial number.
