WRT54G V5 - Slow WIRED downloads?

    Hello all,

Set up my 1st wireless router (WRT54 g V5) and everything seemed to be working allright. Great signal strength, both wireless devices able to connect.

But... my download speeds have gone straight into the toilet. I noticed this first on my desktop, which is WIRED directly to the router with the included cable.

When I connect my desktop PC directly to my DSL modem, I'm downloadin' like there's no tomorrow. Slap my router in the middle, and my download speeds drop horrifically... like 1/4 to 1/2 normal.

I have spent about 3 hours scouring the web for anything that might help, and though a lot of people have had speed issues, I haven't seen anything in terms of a consistent solution. I'd even settle for a "known issue".

And... I have no pride, so I will admit that a lot of this networking stuff is way over my head. I have built my own PC's since I was a kid, but when it comes to network config... well it's my achilles heel. I was hoping that this would be a "plug and play" solution to get my laptop and game console on the web. So far... not so much.

So, if anyone has any ideas, or can point me somewhere where I can read / learn more about what might be going on I would be very grateful.

    Thank you, Pixelpower

I'm having the same exact problem. I replaced my last Linksys router with the WRT54GS (one with the speedbooster mumbo jumbo). When I test my connection on Speakeasy I get:

Download Speed: 4860 kbps (607.5 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 369 kbps (46.1 KB/sec transfer rate)

However, when I access my FTP server and try to dowload something or use Bit torrent or any other direct download, the speed is cut to 1/3 of what it used to be.

As Pixel Power has stated, there is no solution to be found on the net as I've looked and many seem to have the same problem. Someone help, please?
