WRT54G v5. Strange disconnect problem.

Hello, I'm new this networking spiel, so please assume I know nothing, because, well, I know nothing.

I recently moved into a new house and now we have cable. My dad came home with a modem (BEFCMU10 v2) and a router (WRT54G v5) and told me to set them up and I did. They were working until this past Monday night (December 19, 2005), when I had to disconnect them and move them in order to have carpet installed.

Anyway, when I reconnected the modem, router, and my PC (via ethernet cable to port 1) on Tuesday night, I encountered this very strange problem. Every so often, at random intervals, the router's Power Light will begin to flash and the 'Cisco Systems' button on the front will turn off for a period of a couple of seconds, during which I cannot access the internet and if I so happen to be playing an online game at the time, such as World of Warcraft, I'll be disconnected from the server. Also, other programs, such as mIRC and Ventrillo won't 'recognize' I was disconnected during this time, they will hang, so to speak, acting as if I was still connected, but not receiving information.

As anyone else encountered this before? Any suggestions as to how I can fix this would be appreciated.

    Thanks,
    - Bryan

Edit: Oh yes, according to the router's setup page, my firmware version is 1.00.4

I have a similar situation. I am running a v3 WRT54G router with version 4.27 or whatever the latest firmware is. At least once a day, usually more like 4 or 5 times a day, I lose connection to the net with it. As you said it's only a matter or seconds, but I also am on IRC all the time, plus my messengers, BT, etc. I'm thinking it might be the bittorrent that's causing the problem, but even when I shut BT off for a while, I'll still lose the connection. I haven't been able to watch the router when it occurs b/c it's in a diffrent room than I am. This problem is pissing me off VERY much. I'm fixing to switch back to my Microsoft router (ugh). Unfortunatley my dad uses the wireless on the router, and my MS one is wired only..but I'll figure something out. Does anyone have any ideas on this problem.
