Hi all, I'm hoping that someone can help me solve this problem, as it's happening all the time and the linksys tech support just tells me to do the same things over and over..

My set up is this : 3 computers, 2 wired in ports 1 and 3, and one wireless wmp54g. connected to Execulink DSL 2.5mbps down 400kbps up.

When I originally set up the router things were odd right from the get go. It seemed as though when 2 or more computers were surfing/playing games/downloading at the same time, the router would randomly disconnect everyone. All the lights stayed on, but every computer would lose the connection.

Thinking it was the firmware, i upgraded to the newest linksys firmware, v1.0.1.0 i believe. Still no luck. It did the exact same thing.

Reading good things about dd-wrt, I decided to try that route. Successfully flashed it this morning to the newest micro version, and STILL have the same problems! Sometimes it happens right away when downloading or playing games, other times I could be playing games for 15-20 on the wireless connection and then BAM: everyone loses connection.

Thinking the router may be saturating the connection I enabled QoS and set the router to use 85% of my total bandwidth. I even changed the max IP Filter setting from 512 to 4096 using the utorrent nvram patch method (http://www.utorrent.com/faq.php#Special_note_for_users_with_Linksys_WRT54G_GL_GS_routers) and the problem STILL persists.

If I unplug the router completely and just use the modem directly into the computer it works perfectly, so I'm pretty sure it's not my dsl connection..

I had a Netgear WPN824 before this and it did the same thing, just A LOT more frequently.. so I'm not sure where to go from here.

    PLZ HELP!!!

(if this is the wrong section plz move mods)

bumping this cuz i can't fix it..

reverted back to linksys firmware v1.01.0 (whatever's the newest),
tried lowering my mtu settings on all computers to 1200 from 1492: no improvement. used the "clone my pcs MAC" in the router page: no improvement.

did some more testing and if the main terminal is the only one surfing/playing games/downloading, connection is fine. but when you throw the other pcs into the mix, that's where the problems start.

    any ideas?

Did you ever figure this out? I'm having the same problem with my v6 WRT54G router.

I had a similar problem although not quite as often as you seem to get with my WRT54GS. I looked at the status page and noted the MTU size reported from my ISP and then went to the settings page and set the MTU from the default AUTO to manual with the same size as the status report. Haven't had a single drop/lock up since!

I had a similar problem. It seems to come from the smaller memory + processor on board. I switched from using PPTP to using DHCP (modem now takes care of connection) and that seems to solve it.

i did end up finding the solution, but after i dismissed the WRT54G as defective. turns out my dsl modem was on the fritz and was overheating constantly. got a new speedstream 516 and a new router and everythings perfect now. :)
