    Bought a Linksys WRT54G yesterday. A friend told me to try the dd-wrt.v22.prefinal5. I tried to upgrad the unit but it said wrong file.

    I didn't find a s/n like this in the list. Is it possible that my WRT54G is a new V6?

    thx for help

    PS: I tried the newest firmware from linksys too. Same error.

    What does it say on the label on the bottom is a a WRT54GV5 or WRT54GV6. There is on version 6.0 listed on the Linksys website. Also look at FCC-ID it alos indicates the version. Version 5.0 should not be upgraded to any third party firmware, you can render the router inoperative. Check the FCC website generic search under the Q87 preorix for a version 6.0.

    Try upgrade DD-wrt mini ver.23 beta 2 and restting router to the factory defaults first. Don't upgrade in Mozilla firefox and try in windows 98.

    how did you not find it on the list?

    Known serial numbers (first 4 characters) vs versions / Chipsets:

    CDF0 = WRT54G v1.0 / ADM6996L Chipset
    CDF1 = WRT54G v1.0 / ADM6996L Chipset
    CDF2 = WRT54G v1.1 / ADM6996L Chipset
    CDF3 = WRT54G v1.1 / ADM6996L Chipset
    CDF5 = WRT54G v2.0 / ADM6996L Chipset
    CDF7 = WRT54G v2.2 / BCM5325EKQM Chipset
    CDF8 = WRT54G v3.0 / BCM5325EKQM Chipset
    CDF9 = WRT54G v3.1 / BCM5325EKQM Chipset
    CDFA = WRT54G v4.0 / BCM5352E Chipset
    CDFB = WRT54G v5.0 / BCM5352EKPB Chipset

    CDFB IS listed.

    DO NOT use any 3rd party firmware on this router.
