I have as my host router WRT54GS V1.0 Tomato Firmware v1.27.8742 ND VPN which is in my basement. This works great but the wireless signal is low on the 2nd floor.
I want to add my 2nd router to the network to extend the wireless signal on my 2nd floor.

I followed these steps from the wiki

    http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Wireless_Bridge#2._Assign_a_static_IP_to_you_computer

and the wireless signal doesnt seem to be working as the signal still displays low and then the switch part of the router works but then it seems to crash afte awhile and not work at all. So i have to reset everything.

Please assist and tell me if I'm overlooking something or need to do something different.

You need to switch to a newer version of DD-WRT. Some of those old ones had a lot of problems when trying to run client bridged or especially in repeater bridge modes. Check the DD-WRT site to figure out a good build for your router.

    I'm running the MICRO version issued October 2009 with a 54 G v8. Using as a bridged repeater to a 54GL running Tomato 1.27.

    All works great.
