    Hello,

I flashed following these instructions: http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/How_To_Flash_the_WRT54Gv8

Using TFTP, I loaded vxworkskillerGv8-v3.bin. There was confirmation that it was successful and the message said to power off the router.

When I powered back up, I was getting an IP, but the connection kept timing out, so I held the reset button and unplugged and re-plugged in the power (waited 30 seconds) and then tried again. Now, I can't get an auto-IP address and have to set a static IP.

Unfortunately, the router still keeps timing out when attempting to transfer the binary and I can't figure out a way to get the old firmware back or the DD-WRT binary to load. I also noticed the power light is on, but is dim. All the other LED's on the ports seem to work and they all return a ping with the static IP, but that's about it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks.

OFF TOPIC: ! Why keep buying this s**ty WRT54G v8 instead of GL's? Especially when you know you'll try alternative firmware! It's that so much difference between them...

I didn't buy it and would never knowingly buy a v7 or v8.

If you have any suggestions on resolving the situaion, other than putting it in the freezer or using a M80, I wouls appreciate it.

    Thanks :)

Try starting your tftp transfer slightly before the router comes up (after a restart). This way, if the tftp window on the router is small, you might have more luck hitting it at the right time.
Also, if the upload keeps failing, try different tfpt clients. Some clients retry by themselves, while others do not.

Why bother with all that and why not just buy a WRT54GL :)

I know it's like 50-60 bucks, but how much is your time worth to you.

Since I'm a working professional, and I have no time, I would rather just spend the 50 dollars and be done with it.

But hey, to each his own!
