    I have a WRT54G - Wireless-G Broadband Router Version 2 and I
never have updated it since I only use for my home network and
not the internet, but now that I'm getting Cable Internet this week
I want to update it so my first question.

    1. Should I update it to the latest Linksys software Version?

    2. If I update it can I later change it back to a previous Version?

    3. If I update it can I change it to some of the non Linksys software
that add more versitility to the router later?

My Router Version 2 on bottom of the Router
    My Firmware Version: 2.04.4

    Thank You

None of these things you mention should be a problem. I have a WRT54G V2 myself and I have changed the firmware on it many times. Right now I run Alchemy-V1.0 v3.37.6.8sv, and it's good.

Having said that "If it ain't broke, don't fix it". Some of the 3rd part firmware I tried seemed to be a bit short on function and usability, and there were a few heart-stopping moments. With OpenWRT, I think.

I'd say stick with the Linksys firmware you already have if it's working well.

    Best,
