Hello and hope somebody can help me please as I am a newbie here and have just acquired a WRT54G V5 router which I have working fine with the internet on my BB NTL connection and LAN with two cable PC's.

I have also bought a WPC54G card for my laptop that I have installed ok, works fine without any encryption, but I then go to encrypt both the router which I do through the router software on my PC1 with a self generated password which is then saved fine.

I then move to my laptop, open up the Linksys software, it finds teh network, enter the key, but it will not allow me to connect or find the internet? I am totally baffled as I have checked all the settings for encryption, etc and they match.

    Can anyone help please?

Thank you for your replies. Can I ask what the problems are and if I update the firmware will that help?

Updating the firmware. Will that change all my settings? Sorry for the questions, just that this is new to me :)

It all depends what you want to do with the unit - if you're not looking to customize it, you may be just fine. If you want something customizable, get the WRT54GL. I have links on my download page to the cheapest suppliers of the GL I could find (and I buy a whole lot of these, so I know who is good - but if anyone knows of better pricing, please share and I'll do the same!)

    http://99e99.com/box/download.php - just under the "step 1 - get a router" heading.

Answer to your other question, A firmware update should retain your settings.

Thanks Bluebox... I have upgraded the firmware, but the unit will not operate in encrypted mode with my wireless laptop, but will when not encrypted. Very strange......

I am not sure if I can get a refund or not can I? I suppose I can if the unit is not working correctly.

Is it better to get in touch with Amazon where I bought it from or Lyksys direct for a replacement?

Any idea's would be apprecited. Once again, thanks :)

Cheers Bluebox, I am actually in the UK (England), but I am sure Amazon.co.uk will do the same too.

Will check it out, appreciate your feedback. :)
