WRT54G - VPN Doesn't Function

I have a WRT54G on my home network and I'm running W2K Adv Server. I'm trying to use VPN settings from my server to allow other users from outside of my network to connect. I've enabled L2TP and PPTP and still can't get any connectivity. The client (W2K Pro or Win XP Pro) always times out at the point of authentication. I was told by someone that if I put the computer hosting the VPN sessions in the DMZ, I'd be able to VPN. The problem is that this computer is also my FTP server (which I use daily) and can't afford to expose my information to the internet.

IPSEC is even enabled. The current version of firmware I'm using is 2.02.2. I'd thought about going up to 2.04.03, but I've seen the complaints from other users, so I'm considering going to 2.02.08.

Incidentally, I've just ordered a WRV54G, and I'm told the problem still isn't fixed. Does anyone know of a firmware upgrade that will get VPN on either router kicking?

You forgot to tell what firmware you are running i guess it's the Linksys.

But - i have tested both Linksys lates, Sveasoft Satori latest public - and they dont have a stable PPTP VPN connection.

To my knowledge only the WiFi Box versions handles PPTP properly and stable.

And with the Satori i dosn't always get an IP address (so far the worst build with the most features) - and this is tested with Zyxel and Linksys adapters running WPA TKIP.

Stick to the WiFi firmware - still the best and most stable.
