I have to purschae a network wireless soultion for home use. I want to be able to transfer large files between computers. I will also have 3-4 computers connected to the wireless simulatinously. I'm thinking of buying the Linksys WRT54G router, but I have seen that this router is not working very good when transferring big files (there are som firmeware upgrades that could fix this problem but the upgrades are still not that stable).

I will also you my internet connection with P2P software like dc++ and bittorrent. Currently I have a SMC and Zyxel router.

But I just realaised that I don't actually need a new router, I could just be a AccessPoint (WAP54G) instead.

So my questions are is the WAP54G having any problems when transfering large files. Does it have better signale strength than the WRT54G router. Which would shoud I buy and why?

BTW the router and the AP cost the same, so the price is not an issue...

    I have both WAP54Gs and WRT54Gs. I have found the WAP54Gs
to be more reliable. My wireless link to my ISP is over two WAP54G
running has a 'Wireless Bridge'. This link has been 100% up with
    NO packet lost at all.
The WRT54Gs I have on another wireless link has problems from
day one. One is an AP and the other is a Client. The link can be
from 5% to 75% packet loss when doing a simple 'Flood ping'.
I have changed all of the hardware including coax, antennas and
WRT54Gs . Also have tried different firmware.
I have come to believe that it is a problem in the base code for the
    WRTs.

I have not done complete test runs, just simple tests. I will document
my results when I get the time.
