Im so sorry for asking this, but i didnt find any answer yet.
I will buy a router to networking my desktop (cable), ps2/xbox (cable) and 3 laptops (wi-fi).
But i dont know which model i buy.
Im interested in WRT54GS but I read WRT54G has more functions than the new one.

    Can anyone help me?

(if there is a topic about this (i couldnt find), please, delete this)

And which Firmware I use? is it safe?

    Very, very thanx!

me i would go with the wrt54g. i think that the wrt54gv2.2 or the wrt54gv2 are the best. i see a lot of problems with the wrt54gv3 and some problems with the wrt54gv2.2. but i have a wrt54gv2.2 and it works fine. if you are looking for firmware look no further than dd-wrt. dd-wrt has been stable ever since i downloaded it form day one. sure it has its small bugs but nothing is perfect. as for it being safe it is very safe. i have ran dd-wrt more about 12 days straigh with no problems. of course i use a fan on my wrt54gv2.2 just becuase summer is coming in the U.S .
but adding a fan is only optional i did it becuase i had nothing else beeter to do :D

I'd go with the WRT54G. There are really 2 differences. The first is the proprietary speed boosting technology of the GS version which I don't ever use (mainly because it costs more and ties me into all of the same brand of product which I don't like because it's not standard). The other difference is that the GS has more RAM. This probably isn't an issue for most everybody, but if you plan on doing a lot of tweaking and installing extra modules for functionality (which you probably won't...at least not too much) it's completely unnecessary.

Interestingly, my WRT54G v2 came with 32MB of RAM instead of the 16MB that is normal for WRT54G's (32MB is the normal amount for the GS's). I was able to type in a few commands and soon I was able to access all 32MB. Of course, this is a risky thing to do and it voids your warranty because to check to see if you have 32MB of RAM in your router you have to open it up.

As for safety, they're very "safe". Nothing to worry about there.

I'd also second the reccomendation for the DD-WRT firmware. I really like it and it has excellent features including one that allows you to connect your XBox directly to the Kai network (a fake XBox Live network that's free and allows for modded XBoxes). Very cool 8)
