    ok here is my setup.

    I have three WRT54G's.

I have one connected to a 3mb cable connection with a second WRT54G at the other end of the house using WDS to the first router. this is working like a little gem.

I have another WRT54G at a f4iends house a few doors down and that is setup fine. What I wanted to know is can i setup my second WRT54G to have two wds master routers available so if my connection goes down the WRT54G running as wds client would auto move to the next mac address in its list (my firneds WRT54G) and connect and offer internet access?

    2ND WRT54G running WDS

The 2ND WRT54G would be able to auto switch between the two different routers at each house which ever has internet access and depending what rank in the mac address table they sit

    would this work or not?

    kind regards

You might be able to do this with Lazy WDS, but then you couldn't use encryption unless you used the same key on both networks (I think). I've never done that before, though. That's just what I'd try.

...Is your cable really that unreliable?

EDIT: I believe you'd also have to shut down the primary router in order to switch networks too, though, and I'm not sure how you'd maintain a connection to only one or the other when both AP's were functioning. I've only used normal WDS between 2 routers before.

Hey..greetings from Greece.I need your assistance about WDS because i have some speed problems...I mean...i don't know what to put in WDS sections.I own 2 WRT54gs and 1 WRT54G routers and i noticed that when i change some settings (in WDS section) speed is reduced or is not staying at the speed it should have (eg 11 mbps) ,although the signals are strong between AP's.Can you help by giving any screenshots of WDS section (Alchemy Rc6) of your setup? I need screenshots for 3 or more WRT's so to figure out how to setup my AP's .... and what's the different settings the WRT's should have ALWAYS IN WDS SECTION. All of the WRT's are in AP mode.

WDS halves your bandwidth, if that's what you mean...

...sorry....is this a reply? or just a figure out....dear friends i would like your advices because i already know that WDS is limiting the bandwidth....I just want to know what settings (IN WDS section) must have WRT 1 , WRT 2 and WRT 3 to work ALL together.I use Alchemy RC6 on all of them. They act as AP's.

So, if WDS halfing the bandwidth, how should I set up the network where all devices are WRT-54G to keep actual bandwidth ? For example, there is one WRT-54G acting as AP, and five other WRT-54G who are actualy clients ?

qhittinghamj this should work for u:

    | = wire
    ~ = wireless

using WDS to connect the 2 routers that are wireless...
it wouldnt be that hard to run a cable in the attic just cut a few holes and pull the cable through and patch up the holes
the holes would only at MAX 2 in
well that should be a nice set up and should work out fine

the thing with WDS it doesnt go down unless u unplug the power or if it is out of range or unplu the power...and dont worry about the range bc i have mine set up to go 300yd down the street and i have 54mpbs ALL the time so that should be fine...

email or IM me if u have ne more questions i will greatly help u out
