Hello, I bought a WRT54G wierless router and on this web site they say to stay away from version 1 and 5. On the outside of the box the Mac # Is
0014BFE89829 and the S/N # Is CDFBOECL9385. Without taking the plastic wrapping off { so I can return it if it`s the wrong version } to open the box, to look at the label on the bottom of the router. How do I know what version it is. This will be for home use only. I rent a ZOOM ADSL X5 now but wanted to stop paying rent. What S/N # should I look for. Thanks Lynn

    See http://www.linksysinfo.org/modules.php?name=Content&pa=showpage&pid=6

With the serial starting with CDFB, it is a V5.

Version 1 is just as competent as the rest, although you'd be hard pressed to find any new unit in stock as it is over 2 years old.

By the way, WRT54G is not the same as ZOOM ADSL X5. If you rely on the X5 as a modem to connect to your broadband connection, the WRT54G is not the right replacement product.
