I have WRT54G router. It seems to work fine unless I try to watch a movie over the Wireless connection. The movie is on a Dell laptop with MSI Wireless PCMCIA card and I start the movie on a FSC Amilo notebook with Win Media Player 10. After a few minutes the connection is lost and the only way to recover it is to switch off the router. WinXP cannot detect any wireless connection.
This happens when the notebook playing the movie is away from the router and the signal is low and there are some wall inbetween.
When I had both notebooks in the same room not very far from the router (which was in the next room). The first time the movie was interrupted but the connection was not lost and the second time I was able to play another movie without any problem although it didn't run smooth all the time.

The router is new, hardware version 2.0 and firmware 2.02.7.

No that I really need to watch movies over the WLAN but I doing it now as a reliability test.

Any ideas what is the reason? Is the router defective? Why does the wireless connection dissappear (the LAN works though)? Have you experienced anything like that?

Are these routers good? I intend to buy a few more if they are performing reliable?

I hesitate to update the firmware since I haven't payed for it yet and I read that people have problems with latest firmware. Thank you very much!

I had problem not detecting my Wireless AP using windows XP but it was an adapter issue.

Since I changed it everything is just working fine.

See if there is any firmware update for your wireless adapter. Does this happen if you use another PC?

Yes all my wireless connected PC cannot detect the Wireless AP after such crash. I have in the network an HP nx7010 (Centrino), Dell with MSI PCMCIA WLAN adapter and FSC Amilo D1845 with built-in WLAN adapter with Globespanvirata chipset.
My last PC in the network is connected to the LAN port of the router and it works.

When I'm not loading the network too much it is very stable. All the PC can use the internet for many hours and the AP doesn't crash. It does only when the signal is low and I'm watching a movie.

I'll do more diffrent tests tomorrow to see what happens if I start copying large files on all PCs at the same time.
