WRT54G, WPA2, AirPort Extreme and authentication

I just bought a WRT54G router. Version 4. I just upgraded the firmware to the latest Linksys version (4.20.7). I'm connecting to it from a new Mac iBook with AirPort Extreme (802.11b/g).

The Mac is successfully connected to the router with the following key configuration items:
    • WiFi mode: G-only
    • Security: WPA2 Personal, AES only
    • MAC filter: disabled
    • SecureEasySetup: disabled

I noticed, however, that if I change the Authentication Type from it's default value ("Auto") to "Shared Key", I can no longer connect to it.

Is this normal? Perhaps Shared Key mode only works with WEP? (The documentation doesn't even mention WPA2!) Is there a bug in the firmware? Is there a security hole if I leave it at "Auto"?
