do you mean as a wireless repeater? or via a cable just to act as an access point?

Maybe you want to use the WRT54G as a client or bridge? It's possible with custom firmware.

    I recommend using HyperWRT+Tofu or DD-WRT.

Here are some sample configurations for HyperWRT+Tofu

The WRT54GX, WRT54GX2 and the WRT54GX4 do not support bridging or repeating. So you cannot use one as a bridge, repeater or access point client to the other. The WRT54GX, WRT54GX2 and the WRT54GX4 do not have third party firmware support at this time. You can use the WRT54GX, WRT54GX2 and the WRT54GX4 as an access point to the WRT54G via a cable connection from one of the LAN ports of the WRT54G to one of the LAN ports on the WRT54GX, WRT54GX2 and the WRT54GX4 . You have to disable the DHCP server on the WRT54GX, WRT54GX2 and the WRT54GX4 , change the local address of the WRT54GX, WRT54GX2 and the WRT54GX4 not to interfere with the local address of the WRT54G. For example it the local address of the WRT54G is the factory default of 192.168.1.1, and the WRT54G is issuing addresses in the 192.168.1.50 range change the local address of the WRT54GX, WRT54GX2 and the WRT54GX4 to 192.168.1.2 through 192.168.1.49 and save your settings, Under advanced routing disable NAT and save your settings.
