WRT54GC V2 Disappointing Throughput

The WRT54GC V2 is giving me a maximum of around 11.5 Mbps over wireless and around 12.5 - 13 wired. This has really got me stumped. When plugged directly into the cable modem, I'm getting the full 20 Meg that I subscribed to.

I was a bit disappointed by the performance of wireless but wired is equally disappointing. Is this about all I can expect from this device? How can I extract the maximum juice out of this thing?

I use WEP 64 bit encryption and most filtering etc have been turned off. I've been using a HP laptop with a Broadcom Wireless Adaptor (built-in) for testing.

Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions you can provide.
