    Hey all,

I registered my Macbook Pro on my university network today and it accesses the internet fine directly. I'm guessing the system works off MAC codes because you only register once.

I want to use a WRT54GL in my room and then work my PS3 and laptop from that. Here's what I done:

    1. Connect WRT direct to laptop
    2. Clone MAC code for WAN
    3. Reboot WRT and laptop
    4. Connect uni network via ethernet to WRT

The overview looks fine but the WRT can't ping or trace google. Can you guys see a problem anywhere?

My laptop when connected directly to university

WRT overview when connected to university

WRT routing page when connected to university

Thanks for your help. This may be better in the WRT forum btw. Sorry.

I think you need to be in "Gateway mode" so the WRT will act as a "nat router", not just a "router".

    Thanks man, it worked!

The router itself still cannot ping google.com but as long as my laptop has net access I don't care

Now to test to make sure it works with all my other gadgets attached.

    Thanks for your help.

Many universities do not allow residents to use a router of any sort, because they consider them security risks. I know mine doesn't, and that they periodically check for such prohibited items.

    Most just don't allow wireless.
