hello, im new to this community and i hope i get to help out people wherever i can.

i just bought a brand spankin new Linksys WRT54GL and beefed it up with Tomato (latest version). Although i was excited to try out Tomato, i cant get a IP address from my ISP. i have Verizon dsl and the modem is a Westell (pretty old lol). i also kept on messing with the settings that were provided in Tomato's FAQ. i have no clue whats going on. i have another router (WRT54GS v5) and its working perfectly fine, i didn't even have to set up anything.

anywho if you guys can please help it would be much appreciated. thanks you guys!

Did you powercycle the modem? Disconnect the power from the router and modem. If the modem has battery backup remove battery as well. Power on the modem and wait for a couple minutes for it to power up. Then power on the router and wait a couple minutes as well. Then log in to the router to see if you have an IP

Have you tried reseting the router by clearing the nvram and reconfiguring it.

First things first, have you selected PPPoE as the connection type and entered the correct user name and password?

well i dont need to enable pppoe since i dont log in with a username and password. ive never had to set up anything like that, its just a connection with dhcp and got on the internet. even if i connected the modem to my computer it would get on it without a problem, and i never ran the stupid verizon cd lol.

If you're able to get an IP address by directly connecting your computer to the modem you could try cloning that MAC address onto the router. In the Tomato GUI go to Advanced > MAC Address. Click on Clone PC for the WAN Port, then Save at the bottom. Power cycle the modem.
